News, reviews and articles of note covering entertainment in general, from TV shows and movies, to anime, comic books and video games.

Apparently there’s a Korean live action film in the works based on the Taekwon V movie.

Taekwon is your basic mad scientist creates army of evil robots for world domination, good scientist counters with a powerful single robot plot.

(L-R) Taekwon V, Mazinger Z, Great Mazinger and Grendizer

At the time of Taekwon V’s creation, the Japanese manga and animated series, Mazinger Z, was very popular in Korea. And you can clearly see the influence in Taekwon’s design.

The upcoming movie purportedly has a budget of 20-billion Won ($17M Cdn) and is slated for release in 2009.

You may not know his name, but you’ll undoubtedly recognize his voice.

750,000 television spots and 5,000 movie trailers…

Rest in peace, Don.

FireFox 3

Took the plunge and upgraded to Firefox 3 this morning.  It went smoothly, which was a bit of a surprise.  I was expecting a tonne of broken add-ons.  Only a few non-essential ones were incompatible but the ones I rely on the most work just fine.

My blog has a complex lay-out with doo-hickeys and doo-dads all over the place and I’ve seen some significant page rendering speed improvements with it under Firefox 3.

Three Column Lay-out

I’ve decided to adopt a 3-column lay-out to make it easier to view the menus without excessive vertical scrolling.  Having a narrower content column also has the benefit of making the blog a little easier to read on devices like the iPod touch— granted, I’m probably the only person in the world who accesses the site occasionally in that manner. :-P

Stickam

I haven’t been current on the various Internet communities and social networks sprouting up all over the place, primarily because I have no social life. X-D    Yesterday, I discovered Stickam which is a social networking site with an emphasis on live streaming media.

I haven’t explored most of what Stickam has to offer.  I’ve been primarily listening to/watching the Leo Laporte: The Tech Guy show on Stickam.

Saw a local news report with movie-goers leaving the theater and just gushing over the new Heath Ledger Joker film— I mean, the latest Batman film, Batman: The Dark Knight.

One fan interrupted an interview and exclaimed, “It was better than sex!” although his gawky build and goofy Batman mask he was wearing makes me doubt if he’s actually experienced it… with another person. :-P

I like comic books, I don’t dislike Batman, and I think Ledger and Bale are great talents so I’m at a loss to explain why I’m not pumped to see TDK.

I decided to check out what everyone’s saying about it so off I went to rottentomatoes.com. I must say that rottentomatoes.com commenters really do suck.

Their ranks are rife with 12-year old (or adults with an equivalent mentality) fan boy types who resort to verbally abusing critics when a not-so-glowing review brings down the percentage rating of their oh-so-beloved “masterpiece” movie— regardless of how well balanced a review may be.

The splat reviews drew them like flies to shit, resulting in one or two hundred comments filled with childish insults and personal attacks. Not a single comment countered what the nay-say critics wrote in an intelligent and mature manner.

However, I think some of those critics earned those jabs because some of them revealed some very large spoilers without warning! What were they thinking?! So heads up on reading some of those splat reviews!

As for me, maybe I’ll catch TDK in two or three week’s time.

Ha!  It must have been tedious wading through all that footage to find scenes to shoe-horn into the audio.
