My Wordpress set-up is generating quite a few 404 errors behind the scenes. It appears to be caused by bots and outdated linking from other sites.
Normally, the blog is supposed to do a 303 and re-direct these incoming links and point visitors to possibly related articles but that doesn’t seem to be happening. It probably has something to do with the change in permalink structure I made a long time ago.
While the blog seems to function normally from the outside, this deluge of 404 errors might indicate a larger problem that may compound in the future. As a result, I’m going to export all the content here and import it into a fresh installation of Wordpress. The blog will be given a new subdomain, so the URL will most likely change.
Since my computer system is still undergoing restoration, it’ll be probably be a week or more before I change the blog over to the new installation.
