Check out this nifty animated map from Flowing Data depicting the spread of Wal-Mart stores in the United States since its founding and covers the period from 1964 to 2007.
Why do I find this reminiscent of a “rate of infection” animation?
It’s quite disconcerting when you consider how much corporate clout Wal-Mart has acquired.
Also, Modest Maps is pretty cool! It was used in the making of this animated map.
You can zoom out to global level, or zoom in down to street level.
