I was cleaning up some quests and getting Tome of Knowledge unlocks (new content added to the adventure log via exploration and discovery) in Warhammer last night and decided to go do some exploring with my Warrior Priest character and visit some Tier 1 locations.

I visited “The Blighted Isle” where the Elves are attempting to hold back a mighty Ork invasion on the beaches of their Elven lands.

While on the beaches, I inadvertently drew a huge crowd of Orks.  This is known as drawing ‘aggro’ or aggression/aggravation.  In MMO contexts, it means baiting one or more enemy creatures by initiating an attack, or simply passing into their programmed automatic engagement perimeter.

The screen shots don’t do it justice as some of the Orks occupy the same 3D location, with the same pose and animation, so multiple Orks can appear as just one Ork in still images.  But there was a big crowd of them, all bashing away at me.  It was quite the ruckus!

Luckily the Warrior Priest class is an odd mix of magic user/warrior.  Although its magic and hand-to-hand damage isn’t as potent as the strictly dedicated magic or melee classes, it certainly has staying power with its healing abilities while being able to dish out some reasonable damage.

I wasn’t getting a whole lot of experience or good loot from the battle since the Orks were Tier 1 level creatures (I’m Tier 3) but suffice to say, it was a blast “tanking” these guys for a while.

A Coward's Reward

Unfortunately, soon afterwards, I was turned into a chicken when I teamed up with a low level party that, unbeknownst to me, was flagged for player-vs-player combat!

Being turned into an extremely fragile chicken is the penalty for high level players entering PvP mode in lower Tiers.  This stops high ranking players from “ganking” low level players.

I then ran south through monster-infested lands, from The Blighted Isles through Chrace, all the way down to The Shadowlands— and I survived as a chicken! :-P

I’m looking forward to doing more Tome Unlocking runs!
