Wow, just having so many tech-related problems lately! wTwNjzVFVU

My Canon PowerShot A60 digital camera just up and died.  Apparently, it’s not an uncommon problem with some of the early A-series Canon cameras.

The first sign of a problem was with the batteries.  Sometimes the camera would refuse to power up, only displaying the “Change the battery pack” warning message before shutting off.  This occurred with fresh, Lithium-Ion ‘high drain’ batteries.

When I put in fully charged NiMH 2,500 mAh rechargables, the camera would power up normally, but would appear to drain the batteries after minimal use.  Putting in regular AA batteries yielded the same results.

The LCD display began showing no picture but static.  It’d eventually clear up after power cycling the camera.  However, now, it just displays static all the time and all the pictures it takes are corrupted.

At least I didn’t blow a lot of money on it.  I purchased it on clearance so it’s not worth repairing.

Looks like I’m shopping for another camera…

Next to go was the video embedding and the WYSIWYG visual post editor on my Wordpress.  I couldn’t fix the video embedding problem so I was forced to switch to a different embedding plug-in.

I spent the better part of the morning trying to get the visual post editor working again.   After a couple of hours trying a whole host of solutions posted on the web, I ended up just deleting the entire ‘wp-includes’ directory and shutting off any plug-ins that directly modified the editor.

It looks like one of the older video embedding plugins I used was causing the problem and I’ll have to go through a process of elimination to find out which one was the culprit, then try and fix all the older posts which used those plug-ins’ embedding method.  Ugh!

EDIT: It appears Viper’s Video Quick Tags was one of the plug-ins that caused the visual editor mode to disappear on my particular set-up.  There may be more at fault.  Will do more checking.

Sometimes taking the easy road hurts you in the long run.  If I had just used the raw embedding HTML code instead of the quick embedding plug-ins out there, I wouldn’t have to go back now and fix all the old posts.

I really hope that’s all the tech trouble I run into this week!
