The wheels didn’t fall off the car this morning but I felt some brake pulsation which could be an indicator that some of the lugs are improperly tightened.
I’ve been reading car forums and user opinions and most people forego the expense of a torque wrench and just tighten things up “until it feels right” or “feels like they won’t come off by themselves.”
Hmmm… I think I’d prefer to tighten the lugs to specifications using a torque wrench. It’s an added expense, but I think having that peace of mind would be worth it.
Torque wrenches aren’t cheap but judging from my research, it’d be best to avoid torque wrenches that are a little too budget priced.
Paraphrasing an oft expressed sentiment: “It’s your safety and car parts are expensive. Why risk over/under tightening components by going with a cheaply made tool?”
So it looks like I’ll head to various stores today (after doublechecking the lugs) to see what I can find.
The pickings are slim around here though…
