Just when I want to drastically reduce picking up pre-built collectible figures, Hobbyfan does the unthinkable.  They’re having their Lunar Sale with select goods marked at 50%-off  to celebrate the Chinese New Year. :-/

Things of personal note:

VOTOMS

image

Max Factory 1/35th scale VOTOMS figures from the classic mecha anime series "Amored Trooper VOTOMS".

VOTOMS was a popular 52-episode TV series (along with several OVA releases) that aired in 1983-84 and is credited with helping to establish the hard science military anime genre.

VOTOMS has come to the small screen once again in the latest OVA series "Armored Trooper VOTOMS: The Pailsen Files" which was released in Oct. 2007 and is ongoing.

VOTOMs (Vertical One-man Tank for Offense & ManeuverS) are fairly popular with mecha modellers and fans so I think these VOTOMS action figures will go fairly quick at 50%-off.  They usually sell for around $60-$70 USD.

Mai Otome

Mai Otome was a fairly popular anime TV series back in 2006 and was the sequel to the also popular TV series Mai-HiME.

Hobbyfan is offering the Mai-Otome figures made by Atelier Sai at half price.  The price of these figures vary from $60-$100 on eBay so being able to get them for about $25 USD would result in quite the savings.

Atelier Sai is also responsible for the Bubblegum Crisis action figure set that came out a couple of years ago. Those BGC figures were going for almost $100 each and are ultra rare now!

 Fate Stay Night Figures

Fate/Stay Night was originally a Japanese erotic visual novel game by Type-Moon that was published in 2004, then adapted to TV in 2006.

It has garnered a following and Hobbyfan’s selection of various F/SN figures at 50%-off will probably sell relatively quickly.

I’m digging the the Dark Saber figure pictured at left.

There are many more PVC figures from Hobbyfan marked down 50% so this is a great opportunity for collectors to bolster their collections.

Wishlist

I have my eye on a few of those VOTOMS figures, perhaps three of them.  I’ve never seen the original VOTOMS series or the OVAs but I am watching the current ATV: The Pailsen Files OVA series and that has gotten me interested.

I also like the mecha designs as they are more realistic (as mecha can be) than say, Gundam.  The figures are also done in 1/35th scale which is the scale standard adopted by military model manufacturers like Tamiya.   This gives the collector a lot of diorama or accessorizing possibilities.

I was considering perhaps getting one of the Atelier Sai Mai-Otome figures.  I’ve seen half of Mai-HiME and most of Mai-Otome but I wouldn’t exactly place myself in the fan category.  However, having a 6-inch articulated anime figure body to use as a base for custom figures would be great.
