W00t! Gally’s home! My limited edition Gunnm: Another Stories limited edition boxed set has finally arrived.
I realize that in a past blog entry that I’d try and give up pre-built figure collecting in favour of doing figure kits, but aside from just a handful of (now very rare) resin kits and a cold cast statue, no other figure exists of Gally. I couldn’t pass this up.
The Dark Side
I turned to the dark side for a moment and flirted with the idea of ordering multiples and scalping one or two boxed sets. I checked eBay and the going price is currently more than double the original retail price!
I would have had an advantage in this case since Hobbylink Japan had an error in their inventory system that reported the figure as being erroneously out of stock. Furthermore, the email notices they sent out to everyone who had placed an order appeared to be malformed, so it’s possible not everyone would have been able to read them.
But I don’t collect to invest/profit and “victimizing” fellow collectors like that doesn’t usually sit well with me. However, having a second Gally figure to use in resin casting experiments would have been great.
SAL Shipping
There’s nothing like SAL shipping (slow, on-standby shipping with no tracking/insurance) to make the heart grow fonder. :-P Apparently SAL shipping is fastest during the November to February months, during the holiday season so Gally took just 12 business days to get here from Japan! That’s almost as fast as the significantly more expensive EMS shipping service.
12 days is a record-breaker since it has taken as long as 4-5 weeks for packages shipped during other times of the year.
The Box
Apologies for the quality of the photo. I still don’t have my light box set up yet. 
The box is a light-on-dark colour scheme; all black with gold and white lettering and a generous amount of Engrish:
“Let me introduce her to you. Her name is GALLY, a heroine of “GUNNM Last Order”. MASAKI APSY, action figure prototype master made her Imaginos body finally. An ultimate collaboration gave birth to a solid forming of the miracle!”
It’s not a window box in the conventional sense and Gally is just barely visible through the keyhole shaped window on the front.
More to Come
I’ve always been an ‘opener’. I don’t collect to invest/profit so I think it’s a waste to keep everything mint-in-box. These collectibles are meant to be enjoyed out in the open. But I have to admit that the current rarity of this figure makes me hesitate— which admittedly is ridiculous since I don’t plan on selling her.
Anyway, when I do open her, I’ll post more photos (taken using a light box. 
and a review.
