Yoko and Simon from Gurren Lagann

One of my overseas orders came in shortly after Christmas. If HLJ hadn't messed up, Alita would have also arrived that same day. :-(

Anyway, I give you Yoko, the top heavy, gun-totin' heroine from the hit TV series Toppan Gurren Lagaan!

She's in Konami's 1/12th scale figure MMS (Multi Movable System) figure format which mean she can interchange parts with any of the other figures in the MMS line. E.g. The Busou Shinki figures.

You'll have to excuse the quality of the pics. I've yet to construct my light box so I had to quickly rig something up under some harsh lighting conditions.

When I get some time, I'll set up a more detailed photo shoot.

  1. Robbert de Groot (AKA Zekaric) says:

Is the kid in the image above lucky or unlucky?

  2. I’ve read that Yoko Ritona and Simon are actually the same age but Yoko is both emotionally and physically more mature. She has her heart set on someone else though. Yoko’s a tough broad but cares a lot for Simon so you could say he’s both lucky and unlucky. :)

Unfortunately Gurren Lagaan was licensed so fansubbers stopped subbing it at around episode 19 (of 27) so I’ll never get to finish the series until the localized version comes out. :-(

    Tragic. :)

Subbing: Great… How is the series so far?

  4. Tengen Toppan Gurren Lagaan is a great series. It’s unconventional with a strange mix of drama and comedy. It has some really exaggerated animation, especially the fight scenes and it gives a nod to the old God mecha series of olde.

It’s uncomplicated and just plain fun to watch because it’s not trying to be “art” if you know what I mean. It also has some endearing characters.

I’d say it’s probably one of those series that’d make the ‘classic’ category.

Was it manga based before Anime?

  6. No, it’s an entirely original TV series— although with its popularity, it probably will spawn a manga.

  7. Robbert de Groot (AKA Zekaric) says:

Grrr.. I hate that. I’ve found that the manga titles based off of original anime are pretty bad. But if it’s the reverse, then the manga is usually pretty good. Now I really look for that, whether or not the manga spawned the series or vice versa. Been bitten more than once with a rather awful manga.

  8. Yeah, manga (or comics for that matter) that come after a movie or TV series tend to be of “milking the cash cow” quality.

There are exceptions, like the Buffy the Vampire Slayer comic where they’ve made a concerted effort to expand on the foundation established by the TV series. But for the most part, they are just exceptions.

  9. uuhh,, i want her so much. this one is much better than Revoltech Fraulein Yoko.. too bad its sold out evrywhere :((

  10. @ laruto: Have you tried eBay?

A quick search yielded the Yoko MMS figures available for as low as $20 in some cases.
