Busou Renkin Death Note

I've been late to the anime game for the last little while so I've been picking up series mid-stride or have completed their runs.

After reading some not-so-favourable reviews about Busou Renkin, I've decided to not spend my precious monthly bandwidth limit watching it.  Instead, I'm switching to the hyped Death Note series.  Unlike Bosou Renkin, I've read that Death Note is actually worth the hype.

The premise is certainly interesting enough (from Viz's site):

Light Yagami is an ace student with great prospects–and he's bored out of his mind. But all that changes when he finds the Death Note, a notebook dropped by a rogue Shinigami death god. Any human whose name is written in the notebook dies, and now Light has vowed to use the power of the Death Note to rid the world of evil. But when criminals begin dropping dead, the authorities send the legendary detective L to track down the killer. With L hot on his heels, will Light lose sight of his noble goal…or his life?

Unfortunately,  it appears that just the first season of Death Note's 33-episode run have been fan subtitled.  Distributors were quick to license the property so fan subbers have ceased covering the title.

Looks like I may have a long painful wait after the first 12 episodes as Western distributors play catch up— unless I start collecting the Death Note manga which I don't particularly want to do since Western publishers divide up a manga volume into Western comic style portions, making it more expensive to collect overall.
