Someone from Japan has built himself an actual flying glider based on Nausicaä's Mehve jet glider from the classic Hayao Miyazaki movie, Kaze no Tani no Nausicaä (Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind).
No jet engine in it… yet. But I'm sure they're working on it.

Jet maybe too much. A simple ducted fan I think would be sufficient. Any more power than that I think, the experience won’t be as fun.
I wonder how much fuel it’d be able to carry? Guess it wouldn’t have to carry much if he primarily glides and only uses the engine at certain times, like during take-off. No need to be towed into the air.
Have the pilot be in the engine hold; open a foot-launch door in the bottom of the jet-hold. Neglect to have the ski and wheel. Have some hand-squeezed controls: Mehve Foot-launch Glider.
